"He [Jesus] felt great pity
for the crowds that came,
because their problems were so great
and they didn't know where to go for help.
They were like sheep without a shepherd."
--Matthew 9:36
The Shepherd Ministry helps us keep in touch with our church family. People tend to "fall through the cracks" if there is no follow-up on absences, illnesses, needs, or celebrations. The purpose of this program is to make sure that everyone receives attention and love from the chruch in the name of Jesus Christ.
We have twelve shepherds with flocks they are to watch over. Each shepherd is to keep in touch with each one in their flock by:
tending to special needs if/when they arise
taking or sending bulletins when abesent
sending cards for celebrations, illnesses or bereavements
reminding them of special events, meetings, schedule changes, etc.
In addition, the shepherd should notify the pastor in the event one of the flock has any concerns or needs that he should address, and if they become absent for 3 weeks in a row. It is also helpful for each shepherd to gather their flock together at least once a year for fellowship.
This is a valuable ministry that will enable us to know one another better and help us care for each other more effectively. If you need a shepherd, or do not know who your shepherd is, please contact the church office.
